HELP: Hillside's Environmental Leaders and Protectors

Hillside Intermediate School is a nationally recognized Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots School because we include the Roots & Shoots philosophy of care and concern for animals, the environment, and the human community throughout our curriculum. As Dr. Jane Goodall says, “Every individual matters; every individual can make a difference.”

Because Roots & Shoots is our school theme there are many different ways for students to become involved with the program both within and out of the school day. They may choose to take advantage of one or all of these opportunities. Two after-school Roots & Shoots programs are HELP (Hillside’s Environmental Leaders & Protectors) and Students Raising Students. HELP is Hillside’s environmental club that focuses on promoting a more green and sustainable school community. Two major areas of focus for the club are: creating habitats for wildlife on our school grounds and maintaining the school’s recycling program.

This year more than 100 fifth and sixth grade students are involved in Roots & Shoots programs. We are fortunate to have so many dedicated and passionate keepers of our planet.
